MARCH 07, 2023

Please note that 1L students may not conference at the Writing Center for any purpose during the duration of the 1L Legal Practice exam. Thus, no 1L student will be allowed to schedule a conference for any reason beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13th  through Tuesday, April 25th  Thereafter, 1L students will be allowed to schedule conferences so long as they have submitted their Legal Practice exam and the Writing Center has confirmed that the Registrar has received the exam. DECEMBER 01, 2022

The Writing Center will close for the semester as of December 3rd, the last day of classes.  It will reopen on January 17th, the first day of classes for the spring semester.  


OCTOBER 26, 2022

Please note that 1L students may not conference at the Writing Center for any purpose during the duration of the 1L Legal Practice exam. Thus, no 1L student will be allowed to schedule a conference for any reason beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th  through Tuesday, November 22nd.  Thereafter, 1L students will be allowed to schedule conferences so long as they have submitted their Legal Practice exam and the Writing Center has confirmed that the Registrar has received the exam. The Writing Center will begin the semester offering both in-person and virtual conferences.  There are a few conference times when only virtual conferences are available. Those times are designated by the Online Only designation under the name of the Senior Writing Fellow.  All other conferences will be held in person or virtually at the student's preference. All conferences are 45 minutes long.

When you sign up for a conference, please indicate that you would like the conference to be in person by clicking on the button:  No, meet face to face.  If conferencing in person, please go to the Writing Center, located in Room 537 McDonough.  

Virtual conferences will be held via Zoom or through the online conference option on WConline software.  Unless you receive an email providing different instructions, all virtual conference will be held using the online conference option.  You will register for these virtual conferences just as you would for any conference by signing up for a conference on the Writing Center schedule.  Shortly before your appointment time, please log back into the schedule, click on your appointment and selection the red "Start or Join Online Consultation" link.  Please ensure that you allow both video and audio access if prompted to do so.  

If you plan to discuss a document during your conference, you MUST provide your document to the Senior Writing Fellow at least 24 hours in advance, excluding weekends.  Thus, documents for Monday conferences should be uploaded or emailed to the Senior Writing Fellow by Friday.

APRIL 30, 2022

SEPTEMBER 02, 2021

This semester, Fall 2021, the Writing Center will offer both in-person and virtual conferences.  There are a few conference times when only virtual conferences are available. The Writing Center will open for the spring semester on Monday, January 25th, the first day of classes for the spring semester.  


The Writing Center is closed for the semester.  It will reopen the first week of Spring semester classes in January.


AUGUST 28, 2020

Welcome to the Georgetown Law Writing Center.

This semester, the Writing Center will open on September 8th and will remain open through the last day of classes, December 4, 2020.  All Writing Center conferences will be held virtually this entire semester. 

To get started, register for an account by clicking the link to the left.  The Writing Center is open to all members of the Georgetown University Law Center community.

  • You must sign up for a conference at least 24 hours in advance and must provide a copy of the document that you want to discuss at your conference to the Senior Writing Fellow at least 24 business hours prior to your scheduled conference. (Documents for Monday conferences must be uploaded or sent to the Senior Writing Fellow by Friday.) You may upload the document to your appointment form.
  • All conferences are 45 minutes long.  
  • You may sign up for only one conference per week.
  • Senior Writing Fellows will not provide written feedback nor will they edit and proofread your document.  Instead, Senior Writing Fellows provide verbal feedback and discuss the strengths/weaknesses of your writing as well as respond to specific questions or concerns you may have. 
  • You will register for appointments on the Writing Center schedule (just as you may have done in the past for face-to-face conferences). Shortly before your scheduled conference, you just log back into this schedule and click on your appointment.  Then click on the red "Start or Join Online Consultation" link. Please accept any prompt to allow video and audio.  We intend to hold virtual video conferences and thus ask that you allow video.  If allowing video is a problem, you should email in advance the Senior Writing Fellow with whom you are scheduled to conference.  We look forward to "seeing" you!

APRIL 05, 2020

Please note that 1L students may not sign up for Writing Center appointments for any purpose during the period of the final Legal Practice assignment.  Thus, no 1L student may sign up for an apointment from now through the end of the day on Friday, April 17th, or through any extension the individual student may have received.  Thank you for your cooperation.

The Writing Center will reopen on Monday, March 23.  All conferences will be held virtually.  You will register for appointments just like before and provide your document to the Senior Writing Fellow at least 24 hours in advance of the conference.  Shortly before your scheduled conference, you just log back into this schedule and click on your appointment.  Then click on the red "Start or Join Online Consultation" link. MARCH 16, 2020

Consistent with the University decision to move all classes to virtual learning, the Writing Center will be moving to virtual conferencing instead of face-to-face conferencing until further notice. To prepare the Writing Center for this move, the Writing Center will be this week.  All conferences presently scheduled for this week have been cancelled.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused.  We are working to move to virtual conferencing as quickly as possible.  We will post a new Announcement once we are ready for virtual conferencing.  Thanks for your patience.

Welcome to the Georgetown Law Writing Center.

To get started, register for an account by clicking the link to the left.  The Writing Center is open to all members of the Georgetown University Law Center community.

Please note the students in the first year Legal Practice class may not utilize the Writing Center for any reason beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.  In addition, students with extended time or deferred time for the Legal Practice exam may not utilize the Writing Center during the April 4-16 blackout period AND may not utilize the Writing Center until after they have submitted their Legal Practice take home exam.  The Registrar will be consulted to ensure that students who schedule conferences after April 16th have submitted their Legal Practice exams.  Thank you.

Please note the students in the first year Legal Practice class may not utilize the Writing Center for any reason beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8 until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018.  In addition, students with extended time or deferred time for the Legal Practice exam may not utilize the Writing Center during the November 8-19 blackout period AND may not utilize the Writing Center until after they have submitted their Legal Practice take home exam.  The Registrar will be consulted to ensure that students who schedule conferences after November 19th have submitted their Legal Practice exams.  Thank you.
